The airport of Gran Canaria, previously known as Gando Gran Canaria Airport, is located in the “Bahía de Gando” on the east coast of the island. It is 25 Km. (15 miles) away from one of the main tourist resorts of the Canary Islands (the southern zone of Gran Canaria) and 18 Km. (11 miles) away from the capital city, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The airport is also really close to Ingenio and Telde municipalities, with access from the south of the island or from the capital via the GC-1 motorway. It is really easy to find the airport since there are signs indicating its location all along the motorway. Our TopCar office at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport is on the ground floor in the arrival’s terminal and can be accessed both from the baggage reclaim hall and the arrivals hall of Gran Canaria Airport.
Gran Canaria has a volcanic origin and it is located in the central zone of the archipelago, between the islands Fuerteventura and Tenerife. With a surface area of 1,560 km², 236 Km. (147 miles) of coastline and a population of approximately 865.000 inhabitants, Gran Canaria is known worldwide as a miniature continent because of its wide variety of beautiful natural landscapes. As a whole, it can be considered as an elevated massif from sea level to the 1,949-metre-high peak (Pico de Las Nieves) in the centre of the island.
With an average temperature of 24ºC, the island's characteristic subtropical climate allows you to enjoy all kinds of leisure activities, making it an ideal place for holidays at any time of the year. This island is also a real-world landscape and almost half of its geographical space has been declared a Biosphere Reserve because of its natural wealth.
The capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, was founded in 1478 and it is noted for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and beautiful historic neighborhoods such Vegueta and Triana, where “La Catedral de Santa Ana” is located. In the city, you will be able to visit several museums like “La Casa de Colón”, “El Museo Elder” o “El Jardín Botánico”. Towards the centre of the island, is “La Caldera de Bandama” a magnificent crater, the remains of the ancient volcanic activity, and to the west of the island, we can find the municipality of “Arucas” with its spectacular neo-Gothic church “Iglesia de San Juan Bautista”, sculpted entirely from Arucas stone. Also worth a visit to the northwest are the municipalities of Gáldar, of great pre-Hispanic interest, and Agaete, a charming fishing village. And inland, you should also pay a visit to Tejeda with its “Roque Nublo”, one of the main symbols of the island, and Artenara, from where you can access the beautiful Tamadaba pine forest.
